Electropolishing
Electropolishing is the process of soaking metal parts in electrolite and running an electrical current through the solution. This relieves metal fatigue in the form of stresses, scratches and hairline cracks, giving metal parts such as springs a longer life-cycle. Other benefits of electropolishing include mirror finishing, adhesion improvement, deburring and a bacteria-free product due to the elimination of hydrogen.
Electropolished products are not only stress-free and smooth, but often highly mirrored finishes emerge. This is especially true with regards to stainless steel products. This process improves adhesion through the removal of oils and oxides, leaving your product clean and ready for any application. It can also allow for greater penetration through the removal of corrosion on any parts that are to be welded.
The process is ideal for finishing oddly shaped parts that may be impossible to reach through other methods. Part sizing is of particular importance to many industries, and through electropolishing, we are able to resize any part to its correct measurement. This is done by leaving the part in the electrolite solution for a determined amount of time. Through this highly controlled process, the electrolite will carefully and evenly erode the part to its desired size. Burrs (sharp edges), weld marks and scale from heat treatment can also be removed from metals with electropolishing technology.
